Eckman is working as Construction Manager with the Town of Milford and their Ambulance Service to construct a new facility with room for all the functions of the service. They will move out of their current space in the basement of the Town Hall on Union Square when the new building is complete in the fall.

The new building on Elm Street will have 4 apparatus bays, offices, dorm and training space, a kitchen, lab and storage.

The 8,110 square-foot single-story wood frame building was designed by Cowan & Goudreau Architects of Concord.

Eckman Construction’s Superintendent, Dan Bolduc, has encountered a few surprises on his current assignment renovating the Manchester Country Club. But his passion for this type of project is evident, and he savors the challenges that come with a fast-track renovation project.

During an extensive renovation, multiple phases are often happening simultaneously. Demolition may be going on in one part of a building while ductwork and plumbing is installed elsewhere and structural steel is erected for an addition.  Unexpected conditions can be hidden within the walls of a building, presenting the challenges that require a superintendent to draw on his knowledge and experience to find the best solutions for the project.

Such is the case as work passes the halfway point at the Country Club. As demolition proceeded early on, it was discovered that structural upgrades would be necessary to bring the 1920’s building up to current standards. As construction progresses, conflicts are encountered that sometimes require revisions to the location of new ductwork or other systems.

There may be close to 100 people working at the clubhouse on any given day, and several of them approach Dan with questions as he leads a visitor through the project. At each interaction, Dan listens to the problem, asks some questions, and they work out a solution together.  Some issues are too complex for an immediate solution, and Dan will need to confer with others on the project team.

“It’s really the whole team that makes a project successful—those in the office including the estimators and project managers, as well as all of the workers on the project site,” he says.

Dan carves out a few minutes at the end of every day to review that day’s progress and plan his goals for the next. He meets with his two assistant superintendents first thing every morning, to review those goals and iron out any issues. He values the comfort level he has with his team, as well as with the job’s subcontractors. After so many years in the business, Dan is familiar with most of the companies and the individuals working on the country club; he knows and trusts their capabilities. With work proceeding six days a week, he notes that those on the job site become almost like a family.

Hampton selected Eckman as their Construction Manager for two fire stations.

A new 11,000 square-foot facility is being built adjacent to the existing beach station on Ashworth Avenue. It will have a pile foundation because of local soil conditions, and in addition to 4 equipment bays, the station will have offices, bunkrooms, kitchen and dining areas, and a precinct meeting room.

A 9,000 square-foot addition to the station on Winnacunnet Road will be built simultaneously with the new beach station. Two additional equipment bays will be added, as well as a dispatch center and offices for the fire chief, fire prevention, and fire inspector.

This project was designed by Cowan & Goudreau Architects.

Eckman built an expanded safety complex at the intersection of Route 13 and Post Office Drive, to accommodate the Brookline Police Department. A 6000 square-foot addition to the existing Ambulance Service building houses the Police Department—a completed Brookline Safety Complex that was envisioned since the first phase was completed in 2004.

The new police headquarters has offices, locker rooms, and a private interview room, as well as secure holding cells and evidence storage area. A sally port provides for the safe movement of prisoners between police cars and the station. The second floor will be used for storage with the possibility of additional finished space in the future. It was designed by Dennis Mires, PA, The Architects.

Eckman is completing the construction of a new 30,000 square-foot medical facility in Kittery, Maine for the York Hospital. The new facility will be hosting a public open house on Saturday, September 29 with some very special guests.

In an article in the Portsmouth Herald, the new walk in care center is described as “the first one of its kind” in the area by York Hospital Marketing Director Dawn Fernald.

Enrollment at Colby Sawyer College grew by 50% between 2006 and 2012. Eckman is completing an overhaul of the Ware Campus Center building with a large dining room addition, as campus facilities are renovated to accomodate more students. Work on the occupied building continued through the summer, and will be complete by February.

The Ware Center was featured in a story about projects at Colby-Sawyer in a special section of the Manchester Union Leader.

Eckman recently built the Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Health Sciences and Athletic Training Center at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, NH.

“The building and the initiative has allowed us to recruit 200 more students this fall…,” said University Vice President Bruce Kirsh in a recent Manchester Union Leader article.

Eckman is currently building a new student center at Manchester Community College: a 26,674-square-foot addition that MCC President Susan Huard says, “…will benefit every student”. It will include meeting spaces for student organizations, a new cafeteria, and a multi-purpose room with a basketball court.
